後藤宙の作品はなにかしらの部族を喚起させるような雰囲気を纏っています。けれども、その一方で未来的な想像力とも調和するという、一見矛盾するかのような特性を持ち合わせています。そこでは幾何学性と建築性がアグレッシブな色彩と触覚に絡み付いています。彼の作品はインスタレーションでも彫刻でもなく、ジャンルとスタイルを乗り越えてコンテンポラリーアートに欲望の「トーテムとタブー」という次元を持ち込み、無意識的な「崇拝」の引き金を引きます。こうして後藤は有史以前の過去とSF的未来を結びつけ、一方ではディープな未認識の欲望を、また一方では法と秩序というものを弄ぶかのようにして時代と時代をぶつけ合うのです。
